The State Government will open 61 Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEMONC) centres throughout the State in an effort to reduce the maternal mortality rate.
This meeting at the World Bank brought together health experts from the Institute of Child Health, Save the Children’s Saving Newborn Lives, SEARCH, the University of South Africa, and the World Bank. Speakers described experiences from community-based newborn health trials, and addressed new research frontiers and program innovations in newborn care, including birth asphyxia, infection, and management of low birth weight.
